We then proceeded onto the next rocky section and we had a newbie with us that had called me up earlier in the month and asked to come along. Well after explaining what the place was like and that he would probably need a tug through some of the rougher spots he got hung up in a rocky section and I guess the scraping noises were too much for him or his partner. They bailed out after we winched them back up the hill and got them turned around and headed off the mountain. I guess it’s not for everyone.
So we then head on up the mountain until Mike Ciaio gets his YJ hung up on some of the rocks and slows us down followed by his running into a downed tree and getting hung up. Hmmm he sure was having problems that day but then again he had his girlfriend with him so I guess he was either trying to impress her with his smooth driving style or she was distracting him in some sort of fashion. Guess we’ll have to ask Mike at the next meeting.
We then went back to the main trail and decided to try a different trail up to the top. Well we missed the trail that would take us to the top and found another trail, which is mostly a dirt fire type road, which actually turned into a hiking trail. We then decided to break for lunch and after lunch got everyone turned around and headed back to the main trail and found the other side trail to the top which has a couple of little sections to deal with but nothing major.
After getting to the top it started raining, thanks in part to Bob Blair for taking his softtop down.
As we got to the top some people played on the rockpile hill climb and a few of us went up onto the mini mabell rock face climb, which seemed a lot easier this time for most people. Everyone just seemed to be getting more traction.
After a bit more people made their way up and then Willy Vasquez found a little sink hole to try out. Well its now know as playing in Willy’s Hole. The best was Jay in his pu, as he went in he got a lot of air on his drivers side rear as he dropped in. As it was now getting late and starting to rain harder we decided to head on back down the mountain but we came across a local guy on an ATV and he was telling us talltales about the bear den cave and how in the summertime the rattlesnakes line the outside to try and stay cool. Hmmm I always thought snakes were cold blooded and liked to stay warm? Guess we’ll have to come back in the summer and see if we see any snakes. Hell, we might even run into Indiana Jones and that giant ball inside the bear cave.
After BSing with that guy we made it back to the parking lot and aired up except for losing Bob Blair somehow out on the pavement. (You b******s left me & Marc on the trail -Ed.) Hope he made it home ok, I would hate to have to try and find another new webmaster. (Forget it, the pay is lousy. -Ed.) Well until next month this is Wilbur saying happy trails to you.
